Meet VP Support Worker Dale — 19 Years in Care 👏

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Dale, who has an impressive 19 years of experience working in care. We asked him a few questions to find out what drives him, what he’s learned, and what he does to have a health work / home balance.

Q: What led you to a career in care?
Dale: “I was looking for a change of direction in life and a new challenge. I certainly found both!”

Q: What’s been your most rewarding experience?
Dale: “Seeing positive changes in the people I support. Knowing that you’ve played a part in someone moving forward is incredibly rewarding.”

Q: What skill do you bring to your role?
Dale: “Perseverance. Things don’t always happen overnight, so you have to keep going, stay positive and never give up on the person you’re supporting.”

Q: What have you learned since joining VP?
Dale: “I’ve developed an even greater understanding of people living with disabilities and the importance of seeing the person, not just the disability.”

Q: What motivates you every day?
Dale: “Remembering that I’m supporting another person with their own wants, needs and goals. That’s what keeps me focused.”

Q: What makes a great care team?
Dale: “Communication, understanding and making sure everyone is working towards the same goal — both today and in the long term.”

And now for some fun facts…
Karaoke song of choice? Dale: “Ring of Fire — Johnny Cash!”
Big goal for the next year? Dale: “Working towards my black belt in Aikido.”

19 years of experience, plenty of perseverance, and apparently a love of Johnny Cash — we’re lucky to have you for the past 13 years, Dale!
